Choice experiments approach eliciting the monetary value local residents attach to changes to clarity in coastal waters at a beach affected by algal blooms. 

Choice experiment involved attributes associated with visibility (0.5m, 1m (staus quo) and 1.5m), bloom duration, congestion, and a payment vehicle was a one-off tax payment proposed at various rates. 

Data from 850 interviews analysed using conditional and random parameter logit models.
