Ostional Wildlife Refuge is one of world’s largest marine turtle nesting areas, with olive ridley turtles. It has high community participation & equitable profit-sharing from legal sale of turtle eggs. In 2001, 208 residents collected 4,137,000 olive ridley eggs with revenue of $1,011,615 benefiting villagers, intermediaries & market salesmen. El Refugio de Vida Silvestre Ostional es una de las áreas de anidación de tortugas marinas más grandes del mundo, con tortugas oliváceas (Lepidochelys olivacea). Cuenta con gran participación de la comunidad y distribución equitativa de las ganancias de la venta legal de huevos de tortuga. En 2001, 208 residentes recolectaron 4.137.000 huevos de tortuga olivácea con ingresos de $1.011.615 beneficiando a los pobladores, los intermediarios y vendedores del mercado.
