The Moorings System in the British Virgin Islands is a key part of that country's reef protection and marine management strategy. Managed by a statutory body, the British Virgin Islands National Parks Trust, the System, is commonly regarded as a revenue generating success story. This case study traces the history of the establishment of the Moorings System, examines the institutional arrangements which it involves, and looks at some of the factors contributing to its success, and at some of the obstacles faced by the National Trust in its operation. Revenue from moorings is $367,130
